On our way to Waterton, we stopped at Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. That is quite the mouthful, but it means literally what it says. They would get the Buffalo to run up a cliff where they would fall off to their death, and then the Napi people would use 100% of the animals for their survival. We learned all about the Napi people and how they used the land, animals, and weather to their benefit. The kids were fascinated to learn how they used the fur for clothes, the meat for food, and the bones for weapons. It was a very strategic, but dangerous run. They would have to set up the run different every year depending on the weather, winds, etc, and it wouldn't even happen yearly. It's amazing to see how people have survived in different times and situations. It was fun to learn about it.
